Promises and covenants bind, even at a cost.
Jesus says your plain yes or no should be enough. You shouldn’t need to swear to make people believe you. If you are always truthful, your word is your oath.
Check 1Jesus tells people to add oaths so others will believe them.
He says let your yes be yes and your no be no.
Check 2Adding an oath to your words suggests:
If you need to swear, your normal word is in doubt.
Say a clear yes or no today instead of a vague maybe.
Only check it if you did it. Nobody sees this but you.
Do people trust my plain yes?
